This extension and renovation project on Westfield Road, within Edgbaston’s Calthorpe Estate, was designed to create a more open and contemporary family home while working with the character of the existing property.
Central to the brief was the experience of moving through the house, with the design introducing greater volume, openness and visual connection between the principal internal spaces.
DESIGN APPROACH:
A key feature of the design is the double-height entrance, creating a stronger sense of arrival and opening views towards the gallery landing above.
This increased volume helps connect the different levels of the home and gives the entrance greater presence, while the contemporary intervention to the rear creates a clear architectural contrast with the original property. Together, these elements give the renovated home a more open and distinctive spatial character.
